Look In The Mirror: See Who You Can Be

The Cato College of Education, J. Murrey Atkins Library, and. College of Computing and Informatics, in collaboration with the UNC Charlotte Chancellor's Diversity Challenge Fund are pleased to present, “Look In The Mirror-See Who You Can Be.” The purpose of this project is to Dorothy J. Vaughan Academy of Technology, a UNC Charlotte Cato College of Education Partner School member, in providing college major and career awareness for its students through a series of synchronous, asynchronous, and in-person appearances by UNC Charlotte BIPOC representatives. In addition, this project will focus on mentoring and building relationships between educators, professionals, and prospective students of color. Organizations such as Urban Educators for Change, the African & African-American Caucus, the Latinx/Hispanic Caucus, and the diversity committees supported by colleges at UNC Charlotte have expressed support for individual and group engagements for surrounding schools. Individuals, groups, and organizations supporting “Look In The Mirror-See Who You Can Be” are invited to “sign-up” to provide engagements with students at Dorothy J. Vaughan Academy of Technology. These engagements may take the form of a(n): synchronous, asynchronous, or in-person engagement. The facilitator(s) will be responsible for providing: college major and career awareness content; an activity based on this content; guidance on supplemental materials and information; and an evaluation completed by the pre-college students and their respective teachers. Data collected will be used for reporting and to strengthen future programming. Representatives from each of the seven colleges at UNC Charlotte will be sought.
