“Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning: Promoting Diversity and Innovation for Patient
Care and Population Health,” NC HIMSS [Healthcare Information and Management System]
Annual Conference, Concord, NC. I developed the panel idea, reached out to potential
participants working on panel-related research, coordinated the conference proposal, and
submitted the proposal. Presented at the NC HIMSS virtual conference on November 17, 2020. Other panelists included Mohd Anwar, Ph.D., an associate professor of computer science at North Carolina A&T State University and the director of A&T’s Center for Advanced Studies in Identity Sciences; Dr. Ricanek (NC A&T graduate) of the University of North Carolina, Wilmington and formerly with the Department of Defense and Corning Optical Fiber in the areas of computer vision, artificial intelligence and machine intelligence, and biometrics; and Doug Hague, Executive Director of the School of Data Science.
The Department co-hosted Multicultural Pre-Doctoral Fellow Anar Parikh, a Ph.D.
Candidate in the Department of Anthropology at Brown University. Anar Parikh taught
Ethnographies of Global South Asian Diaspora as a cross-listed course for three
departments: ANTH 3090.001, INTL 3000.001, and POLS 3030.001. CLAS moved all
interactive sessions with department chairs and classes online as part of the transition to a
remote environment due to the pandemic. I attended mentoring sessions with Anar Parikh
and introductory session with the Fellows online as part of the transition. Summer 2020.
